IDC on Roatan with PADI Course Director - Peter Wilcox

Peter Wilcox Hi, my name is Peter Wilcox - PADI Course Director at Barefoot Divers, on the caribbean island of Roatan. It has been my pleasure to have been training Divemasters, Instructors and supporting local marine conservation initiatives in the Bay Islands of Honduras for the past 6 years.

My life in the scuba zoo began 19 years ago. My diving adventures have taken me to Australia, Malaysia, Hawaii, Mexico, the West Coast of North America and most of the Caribbean on reefs, wrecks and caves. As I am committed to exploring the coral kingdom, my sense of wonder has stayed vibrant and inspires me to dive new sites, and photograph everything from nudibranchs to sharks.

As this is my website, I hope you will get a good idea of my experience as a PADI Course Director, my teaching philosophy and therefore my potential suitability for you as an IDC instructor and PADI career mentor. Likewise, I hope that by you getting to know me a bit better, I may attract to my programs divers with similar values of professional and fun quality courses with dedication to marine conservation.

In 2002 I became a PADI Instructor in the beautiful (but lets say 'chilly') waters of my home town, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Soon after I moved to Saba, and then to St Maarten in the Dutch Antilles of the eastern caribbean. After a few years of Instructing there I moved to Playa del Carmen, Mexico and learned to love the relaxed Mexican lifestyle, its amazing people and the stunning beauty of the cenotes.

During the summer of 2005 I moved to Utila, Honduras to concentrate on teaching divers to become PADI professionals. During 2005/6, while managing the PADI 5 Star CDC Center, the Bay Islands College of Diving, I became a PADI Course Director and DAN Instructor Trainer.caribbean reef shark

It was also during this period, working with other PADI Course Directors that I developed my preference of not having large classes, but focusing on personal attention and improving the standard of professional scuba training as part of the local diving community dedicated to marine conservation.

In 2007 I moved my courses from Utila to nearby Roatan where no resident PADI Course Directors were offerring IDC programs and established Subway Watersports as an IDC center. While running the IDC programs in 2007 and 2008 at Subway Watersports I was twice awarded PADIs highest rating for a Course Director - Platinum.

As part of my scuba community efforts I organize PADI Pro fundraisers for the Roatan Marine Park and now have the pleasure of offering Assistant Instructor Internships together with my IDC alumni at several centers around Roatanunderwater photo .

The most successful chapter of my PADI IDC training programs has now been launched in 2009 with Barefoot Divers. In 2008 I resigned from my position with Subway Watersports to begin offerring IDC programs at Barefoot Divers 5 Star IDC Resort and establish my marine eco research and conservation programs including the Shark Legacy Project.

I can now welcome you to Trip Advisors number one rated dive resort on Roatan, offer you training with the only Platinum awarded Course Director on Roatan, using the most up to date eLearning PADI IDC program and all set within most impressive facilities available in all of the Bay Islands of Honduras. Come and see what we can do together for your professional dive training and successful start into the best job in the world.

I look forward to welcoming you to Roatan, Barefoot Divers and into our growing alumni of Barefoot Dive Pro Honduras scuba professionals. You can email me at CourseDirector@BarefootCay.com or call the dive shop at +011-504-3291-8539
