Barefoot Dive Pro is pleased to offer its Roatan Divemaster and Instructor scholarship program to improve the long term growth and advancement of Hondurans with a background in the biological sciences. We also offer financing options for Hondurans interested in careers in the dive industry and for candidates from other countries with outstanding applications related to; marine conservation, ecology studies and biological sciences.

The Go Pro scholarship program is a commitment between Barefoot Dive Pro, Barefoot Divers and the PADI Americas regional office. While tuition, diving, internship and meals are covered by Barefoot, PADI Americas has offered their assistance on the cost of materials.
The vision of the program is to contribute to the long term growth of the diving industry here in the Bay Islands of Honduras by offering another career option for divers from the local populace. While the majority of PADI scuba instructor jobs are held by transitional staff from many countries, the percentage of Hondurans has been typically low.
By offering scholarships and financing, particularly to career minded individuals with degrees in the biological sciences, our goals are:
- to assist in the long term growth of the dive industry
- to create a stable group of local dive staff with the knowledge and training to be visionaries and activists in the protection of the marine environment
- to improve the options for employment to local career minded individuals
To date, Peter, and Barefoot Dive Pro have trained many of the Honduran Instructors and Divemasters working in the Bay Islands of Honduras, Utila, Roatan and Guanaja. It has also been my pleasure to train many biologists and scientists from all over the world, many of whom are now working full time in conservation projects - like the Shark Legacy Project.
Of note, this year Licario Zepeda, completed his PADI Assistant Instructor training with Barefoot Dive Pro. Licario is from Tegucigalpa, is a graduate of UNITEC in the Tourism Business Administration program and runs the Roatan Marine Park office, southside division.
Licario embodies the ideals and goals of the Barefoot Dive Pro Scholarship program, we are very pleased to have been able to offer his training towards advancing the long term growth of sustainable tourism and marine conservation here in Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras.
